ADR glossary
Caucus
A private meeting between the mediator and one party (or side), separate from joint session, often used to explore options confidentially.
General information only, not legal advice, mediation advice, or a substitute for professional judgment. Neutly is administrative software for mediator practices; it does not host live video or select court neutrals. Mediators and lawyers remain responsible for their work.
In caucus, parties may share information they do not want repeated in joint session. The mediator uses caucus to test settlement ranges, clarify interests, and manage emotion without derailing the joint room.
Software does not replace caucus technique, but clear pre-mediation intake and document exchange help you enter caucus informed. Matter records keep preparation visible so session time stays focused on dialogue.
